There has been word coming out that Gogebic will forfeit this weeks game against Westwood.....

If that is so, then..................Westwood needs to contact Norway so that those schools can play a game (since Manistique already forfeited to Norway this week too)

It is official. Gogebic cancelled. See if struggling Norway wants to play. It will be interesting. If the Knights win the last two games they could make the playoffs at 5-4. Westwood is a tough opponent to give up that free win and a chance at the playoffs for. I am doubting this happens given the accepted change in culture up here.

WEEK 8 Only 2 weeks left in the regular season. Teams are trying to position themselves for conference championships and the playoffs. Results for week 7 and year to date follow:

11-man:
Week 7: 11 C, 5 W = 68.75%
Overall: 80 C, 32 W = 71.43%

8-man:
Week 7: 5 C, 2 W = 71.43%
Overall: 40 C, 9 W = 81.63%

Totals:
Week 7: 16 C, 7 W = 69.56%
Overall: 120 C, 41 W = 74.53%

Thursday Oct. 11th:

Carney-Nadeau (0-7) at North Central (6-1)

The Jets will score early and often in this rivalry game, giving their starters plenty of rest. And since the game is on Thursday, it will give both coaches a chance to go scout their week 9 opponents. North Central is playing the best 8-man ball in the U.P. right now. Jets over Wolves.

Friday Oct. 12th:

Escanaba (5-2) at Traverse City Central (6-1)

The host Trojans are already in the playoffs and want to earn some playoff games. The Eskymos are facing their 5th Class A team this year, going 2-2 so far against the other ones. A win here would be a huge upset for the visitors. That won't happen this week as the Trojans prevail. Trojans 38, Eskymos 7.

Gladstone (3-4) at Marquette (3-4)

Neither team has much of a chance at getting a playoff berth this year. A Gladstone win and it could be a 3 way tie for first in the GNC heading into week 9. A Marquette win would clinch at least a tie for the league crown. Marquette stubbed it's toe at Lakeland last week. They turn it around here. Redmen 28, Braves 14.

Menominee (1-6) at Kingsford (3-4)

The Flivvers still have an outside chance to get to the playoffs, but they must win their last 2 games. The Maroons gave a decent Okemos team all it wanted last week but fell just short. These are huge rivals going head to head this week. The home team has more to play for and they win. Flivvers 28, Maroons 20.

Inland Lakes (0-7) at Sault Ste. Marie (4-3)

What happened to the Blue Devils last week in losing to a small Class C Rogers City team? The final score in every game the Blue Devils have played this year has been decided by a TD or less (except the Marquette game). The hosts SHOULD win by more than a TD this week. Blue Devils 42, Bulldogs 7.

L'Anse (3-4) at Iron Mountain (5-2)

The Mountaineers had to fight back from 14 points down at half last week to beat a determined Hancock squad. Now playing back home, the hosts should be more comfortable on it's own field. The Purple Hornets gave Westwood a decent game last week. They come up short again this week. Mountaineers 35, Purple Hornets 13.

Calumet (7-0) at Hancock (2-5)

Congratulations to Calumet for getting back to the playoffs. Now they want to finish the season off unbeaten in order to host a playoff game or two. Hancock put up a nice fight against Iron Mountain last week. This is a rivalry game so one never knows how the teams come out. Look for the visitors to win again. Copper Kings 34, Bulldogs 0.

Gogebic (0-7) at Westwood (5-2)

The Miners have had numbers issues and now will forfeit this game this week to the Patriots. Patriots 1, Miners 0. (Forfeit)

Negaunee (4-3) at Houghton (3-4)

The Miners have fought back from a 0-2 beginning to be close to getting a playoff berth. A win this week would give them 3 wins over Class B schools this year, which just might be able to get them into the playoffs at 5-4. Houghton would love to dash those plans but it won't happen this week. Miners 34, Gremlins 8.

West Iron County (5-2) at Gwinn (5-2)

The Wykons have now lost to 2 undefeated teams this year, Calumet and Ishpeming. Not bad. Gwinn earned a last minute win at Norway to break a 2 game losing streak. The winner here gets a playoff berth with the loser trying again next week. Look for the Blue and White to get a win. Wykons 21, Modeltowners 7.

Munising (4-3) at Ishpeming (7-0)

The Mustangs won a close game at Lake Linden-Hubbell and that puts them into the playoff hunt. A win this week would probably mean they get there. But most likely they have to win against Gwinn next week to have any chance. THe Hematites are hoping to host some playoff games. They get win no. 8 here. Hematites 35, Mustangs 0.

Manistique (0-7) at Norway (3-4)

Knights get the east forfeit win over the Emeralds this week. Knights 1, Emeralds 0 (Forfeit)

Johannesburg-Lewiston (6-1) at Newberry (2-5)

The Cardinals got a key win over 2nd place Harbor Springs last week. A win this week will clinch at least a tie for the NMFL Legacy title this year. They also are already in the playoffs so every win is important too. They make the long trek to the U.P. to face an Indian squad with not much to play for. The visitors get another win. Cardinals 35, Indians 20.

St. Ignace (4-3) at Rogers City (6-1)

The Hurons are in the playoffs for the first time since 2009, after their huge win over Class B Sault Ste. Marie last week. The Saints have their eyes also on the playoffs but basically need to win their last 2 games to get there. These 2 rivals have not met since 2012. The visitors have something to prove and get a key win. Saints 21, Hurons 19.

East Jordan (1-6) at Mancelona (2-5)

Neither team here is looking for postseason play this year. Both are just trying to improve their young players for next year. They aren't that far apart but are in different divisions of the NMFL. The Ironmen get the edge because they are playing at home. Ironmen 20, Red Devils 14.

Frankfort (4-3) at Gaylord St. Mary (1-5)

The Panthers may qualify for the playoffs this year, but they are far from a powerhouse team. IF they make the playoffs, it will be the 5th year in a row. St. Mary is not having much fun this year after a great year last year. This should be a close game, with the Panthers hanging on for the win. Panthers 26, Snowbirds 13.

Elk Rapids (5-2) at Harbor Springs (6-1)

The Rams are already in the playoffs and perhaps they felt that in their loss last week. The Elks need 1 more win to qualify. Their 2 losses have come to 2 teams better than any teams the Rams have faced this year. Look for the guests to get their 6th win this week. Elks 20, Rams 7.

Pickford (7-0) at Brimley (1-6)

The Panthers have been steamrolling teams since their tough game at Forest Park. Perhaps the Trojans woke them up a bit. The Bays are riding a 6 game losing streak right now. Don't look for that streak to end this week as the Panthers roll in yet another game. Panthers over Bays.

Cedarville (4-3) at Rudyard (3-4)

Both teams' last loss this year has been to Rapid River. The Bulldogs broke a 4 game losing streak with a win over Carney-Nadeau last week. Neither team here has defeated another school with a winning record this year. The Trojans are the favorites going in here so go with them to win. Trojans over Bulldogs.

Rapid River (5-2) at Engadine (6-1)

The Rockets got a key win last week against Cedarville. These 2 teams are fighting for who will finish in 2nd place in the GL8 West this year. Engadine was fortunate to play North Central in week 1 and benefit from 5 Jet turnovers in that game. This is basically a tossup game here. Go with the hosts. Eagles over Rockets.

Ontonagon (4-3) at Forest Park (4-3)

The banged up Trojans somehow found enough bodies to play against North Dickinson last week. They welcome a Gladiator team that now has their own eyes set on a playoff berth. The winner here is virutally assured of a playoff bid, regardless of next week. The Trojans power game is the difference here. Trojans over Gladiators.

Stephenson (4-3) at North Dickinson (0-7)

The Glover-less Eagles have now lost 3 straight games. Even without their star running back, the Eagles should have enough to take down a struggling Nordic squad. North Dickinson is waiting to play Carney-Nadeau next week. For this week, the Eagles finally get their 5th win. Eagles over Nordics.

Superior Central (3-4) at Wausaukee (WI) (5-3)

Injuries have devastated the Cougars as of late. They could have 6 starters out heading into this key game for them. The Rangers lost last week to ruin any chance they had to get into the WIAA 8-man playoffs. Still, this is a decent Ranger team this year. They hold off the visiting Cougars here. Rangers over Cougars.

Saturday Oct. 13th:

Bark River-Harris (2-5) at Lake Linden-Hubbell (1-6)

The Broncos got a nice road win at Newberry last week. Neither team is heading to the playoffs, so this game is just for pride. The Lakes have not quit in any game they have played so far this year. At least this is a school closer to their size this week so the Lakes get a nice win. Lakes 20, Broncos 16.

Escanaba over TCC 38-21 in what would be a very aggressive Defense by the Eskymos, actually caught TCC off guard and could not recover.

We were all wrong about the Eskymos in thinking they would get destroyed but it was the other way around. The Eskymos basically destroyed TCC on their Field tonight.

Anyone have a link to the Eben Junction Superior Central score since it has big time implications in the playoff projections this week?
