2018 UP practice numbers

Postby steve grinsteiner » Mon Aug 06, 2018 3:08 pm

Please post the number of football players from each high school who came out for football today.

I was told by the coaches that Stephenson had 16 players out for varsity.

Do you know what the junior senior make up of Westwood is? I thought I remember hearing they were pretty young last year.

I've been told Superior Central has 17 out for their 9th-12th varsity team.

Hearing that Marquette will not be able to field a JV team this year...and Kingsford's schedule reflects that as they've been dropped. Two games were scheduled against MQT this year...now a seven game schedule with Lomira being added.

Manistique 14 varsity
17 junior varsity

No size or speed at all. Again, lower numbers since 2015. If the numbers keep going down and losses mounting the last few seasons, it should be apparent that the next move should be to eight man football. Better yet, play as an independent.

No JV team in Marquette? If this is accurate, someone has some explaining to do. No excuse for this....

Yeah curious on that one as well. If it's true then hopefully it's a one year thing. Expected more for a school for a size of MQT

Any word on how many players came out for North Central, Bark River, North Dickinson, Forest Park?

It is accurate for Marquette. The 12 JV players were moved to Varsity.

That's incredibly disappointing low numbers for the Marquette program. Its not going to help future football participation numbers that there will be a lot of kids riding the pines all year because they couldn't scrape together a JV team.

Its an unusual move to keep the Frosh team which usually has a much harder time getting games and scrap the JV team. Without direct knowledge of the details..... you usually move all the Frosh up and keep the JV team so the sophomores that actually went out for football can actually have a chance to play and develop.

25 Seniors? Instead of canceling the JV season they should've moved some junior who aren't playing much down to the JV squad.

Mqt is a disaster school....Pay to play and BAD BAD coaches. Don't blame the new AD Alex, he is a top notch dude but the coaching staff in all sports there is awful.
Take V-Ball as an example. Last year the Freshman coach missed half the practices, and nearly 10 games were cancelled. This year...Only 12 sophomores go out but they cut 4 of them and moved 4 freshman up to JV vs. play the sophomores who came out to play. FYI enough girls to field a team no reason to cut anyone as the freshman team will only field 11 with the 4 moved up. DUMB.

Now..rinse/repeat said ISSUES and multiply them.

GNC,

Though I agree there are some, that blanket statement is just not true. Marquette has some great coaches that I’m proud to call friends.

That being said, Marquette is going to be very good this year. I look forward to the season.
