Conference Realignment 2020

Postby Finchwidget » Fri Mar 22, 2019 4:37 pm

So, finally some conference realignment news that isn't related to the whole GNC/West PAC fiasco; the Soo is confirmed to being making the move to the NMFL Legends for 2020, along with West Branch Ogemaw Heights.

I'm shocked that Soo High didn't ask to get placed in the Legacy Division!

Odds of Soo asking out of the league after getting pole-axed in conference play after a few years again? I say 50/50.

At least they found a home that is relatively close to them? Still want to see how GNC operates going forward in 2020 especially since Menominee could be in a WI conference for Football.

news out of the wissports.net folks is that Kingsford is headed to the Bay Conference in Wisconsin come 2020...........GNC looks to be on a lifeline right now

Menominee has actually been realeased as part of the latest proposal, nothing on Kingsford yet. I'll know more after the clinic this week.

After attending the WIFCA clinic, I was told that Menominee is definitely part of the new football only realignment. Kingsford is not part of the plan. The GNC is going to be a mess trying to schedule games for 2020.

That's not good.....They may be forced to play twice against each other to fill schedules out perhaps.

It could really get bad for the GNC if the playoff formula changes from six wins and you're in to the proposed "strength of schedule" plan. What would happen to a school like Escanaba that may end up playing two teams twice that a really bad?

Hearing Michigan may torpedo Menominee by requiring them to play a certain number of Michigan teams to qualify for the Michigan playoffs. Amazing that Michigan provides no scheduling assistance but will penalize Menominee for finding its own solution.

If that's the case, the same should happen to Ironwood in basketball. They play all but 4/5 games against Wisconsin schools. It's laughable that they would intervene at this point.

IF this is true, Menominee should just leave the MHSAA for the WIAA at this point. And no one would blame them...

Not only did they play Wisconsin schools, many of the WI schools they played are much smaller than Ironwood. Their getting running clocked by Iron Mountain in round 1 of districts is proof of how awful Ironwood's schedule was.

Indianhead Conference enrollments (2018-19):
Ironwood (MI) 221
Hurley 170
Washburn 168
Bayfield 119
Drummond 115
Mellen 91
Solon Springs 74
Butternut 59
Mercer 52
South Shore 52

To be honest, the Indianhead took a few steps back this year in basketball. Outside of Ironwood, the rest of the league was beating up on each other.
