Full only conferences officially approved

Postby Up Football Fan » Tue Apr 16, 2019 10:03 pm

The WIAA has officially approved the "football only" conference arrangements, beginning in 2020.......

This officially hurts the U.P. schools that rely scheduling WI schools to fill in open dates. Link to the decision below:

Does that mean Menominee would be eligible to play in the WIAA football playoffs?

No, they are not members of the WIAA. The only out of state schools that participate in playoffs are co-ops, with Wisconsin schools as the primary school.

Menominee can't participate in the MHSAA football playoffs unless the MHSAA says so at this point....

The problem is... they cant participate in them anyway if they don't play in the regular season.

There are no games to be had for the GNC schools. Menominee can at least play regular season games and be denied the playoffs. The other GNC schools will have no regular season games therefore not getting to the magic 6 wins.

Kids.. this is what poor leadership looks like. The MHSAA is run by inept good ole boys who sit on their hands and send out stupid surveys.

So, under the MHSAA's theory, Menominee will get to schedule Marinette week 1, fit Kingsford, Escanaba, Marquette and Gladstone somewhere and play 4 downstate schools on the road (since none will come to the UP and MHSAA will not let Menominee go to Minnesota or Illinois even though it may be closer). But MHSAA will be the first to tell you that they work for the members.

Don't forget, Minnesota is now closed since they went to Sections/District play a couple of years ago.

It has been a few years that Illinois is now considered a border state, but any MHSAA team can play any Illinois team if the two teams can agree to a game in any sport. So time to look at Illinois schools. I was trying to convince the Clarkston AD to play Menominee, but I guess that the game won't happen.
