GNC Schedules 2019

Postby GNCrocks » Wed Oct 17, 2018 11:57 am

Going to start this thread now....

As of now here are the open's that are known as of end of week 9 2018...

Kingsford - Open Week 2 (Escanaba game moved to week 5).

Escanaba - Week's 3 & 9 (Loyola 2 year contract up, DC Everest was only a 1 year contract and Kinsford game moved to week 5, to accommodate Kingsford getting WI games, Kingsford asked Escanaba to do this to help Kingsford schedule a WI team, and Esky said ok).

Gladstone - Week 9. (Good opportunity for both Esky and Gladstone to move to week 9 to pick up opponents in week 7 if necessary.)

Menominee - Weeks 4, 5 & 9. Same thing, can adjust with Esky or Gladstone to accommodate assistance if necessary. (Marquette game moved to Week 7)

Marquette - No openings in MHSAA,ASSUMING Week 9 is open as well...(see help above) (Menominee Game moved to week 7.)

*with all the week 9 openings IF Kingsford dropped their week 9 team and IF the GNC could get a 6th team (Soo, Petsokey et. al) you could leave week 9 open for a conf. championship game week like Detroit Public schools do, although you would have repeat game but it would be kinda fun and help with scheduling, but I think that is a pipe dream, just an interesting thought.

Marquette is moving Kingsford to week 9 and Menominee to Week 7 and I don't believe they will be playing Lakeland Union. So as of right now I believe Marquette has an Open Week 6

Escanaba, Gladstone & Menominee all have week 9 currently open. The hard part is wanting to go on a long trip a week before playoffs.
However, it does allow a combo of moving their current game to week 9 if they both can find Opposition in that current week.
Example if Esky and Gladstone want to move their game to week 9, if they can both find opponents for week 7. Or any other combo of that.

Especially the Kingsford schedule I don't know much about if they're playing the same teams like Menasha, Fond du Lac and Lomira from Wisconsin. I take it Gladstone is playing St Ignace and the same teams from last year? I know it's early yet, but I'm trying to figure out the exact dates on the GNC schedules. But, I wonder what this football season has in store in the UP?

Escanaba has filled Week 9 with Swartz Creek; unsure if 1 or 2 year contract. Heard 1, but hearing Esky still wants 2.
Week 3 still open, few options being looked at out of state as the only Michigan open (Ogemaw Heights) has not materialized.

ESCANABA Current 2019 Schedule as of (2.2.19)
1- ALPENA
2- @ Petoskey
3- open
4- MARQUETTE
5- @ Kingsford
6- @ Menominee
7- GLADSTONE
8- TRAVERSE CITY CENTRAL
9- @ Swartz Creek

Why in the hell would Esky only sign a one year deal?

You sign a one year deal to fill your schedule and that's the best you can get. FWIW, it's only going to get worse for the GNC schools.

Just don't understand that if Esky wanted a 2yr deal, why would they sign a 1yr? Agree on the upcoming scheduling drama with all the GNC schools. The way the playoffs currently are set up doesn't encourage teams scheduling hard games.

Downstate schools are doing one year deals hoping to find something closer and avoid making a trip up here. Someone has to step in and help the GNC schools fill schedules. A change in the playoff system will force people to play better competition.

Gaylord would be a great pickup for the Maroons for week 9 as it appears that the Blue Devils still have an opening in week 9 also

Looks like Gladstone will travel to Oscoda week 9 to take on the Owls, according to the MHSAA website. Menominee is still open week 9 at this time. Sault Ste Marie will travel to Gaylord week 9, Gladstone also plays Gaylord week 2.

Any word on what Kingsford's other opponents on their schedule could be?

Escanaba started the year with two open dates.
Weeks 3 & 9.
9 has been filled with a 1 year game, with Esky traveling to Swartz Creek

Week 3 has been a tough for the Eskymos and has not been from a lack of trying...
- 1st there was Ashland, WI, who said No.
- 2nd team Esky touched based with was Ogemaw Heights who had the week open, Ogemaw like SC only wanted a 1 year as long as it put Esky on the road, no return trip. Esky said no. Esky then reached out to Detroit Edsel who was very interested but then Ogemaw grabbed them up on a 2 year deal.
- 3rd and most recent was Grandville Calvin Christian as they left the OK Silver to go Independent...while not a strong football school and half the size of Esky, the game would have been a good pick up for both schools with an open date. The quote was "They laughed at us and said hell no".
There are many more, but these are the highlights I knew of.

Currently the only open Dates per MHSAA as of 5.7.19 are Detroit MLK, Detroit Cass Tech, and the previously mentioned Grandville Calvin Christian.

Can't say I blame Calvin Christian, really; they didn't even know if they were going to field a varsity team up until just recently, so for them to schedule a school like Esky would practically be suicide. That was kind of low of Ogemaw though...

Then Esky should work out a date with Cass Tech. Don't dump on a team not wanting to play up if you aren't willing to do the same.

Esky has never shy'd away from anyone...
All of their Non-Conf games are larger schools...Alpena, Petoskey, TCC, & Swartz Creek....
I think its a little early to be calling out Esky on not willing to play anyone, a little early by about 50 years.
But I don't think its fair to ask them to spend a 3rd game below the bridge either.
These LP teams need to quit using travel costs as excuses...That excuse has run it's course.

I don't disagree with you...it's not fair to Esky to have to travel downstate to fill a schedule. You are going to lose any chance of playing in Wisconsin next year. Hopefully this new playoff format breaks up the megaconference and schools have to start playing GNC schools to increase their chances of qualifying. Calvin Christian has no business playing Esky.
