GNC Scheduling 2020

Postby GNCrocks » Mon Nov 04, 2019 8:43 am

1. Marquette & Escanaba tried to join the BNC and Caddy & Gaylord said no. However, to help the GNC out, as they FULLY understand the scheduling issues, the BNC moved most of their conf. games to weeks 3-7 and are giving GNC teams 1,2, 8 & 9 as they can, best they can. Look to see lots of BNC/GNC games in next two years in these dates.
2. Soo will NOT be re-joining back into the GNC despite rumors, in fact they even dropped their Marquette game for 2020.
3. In some cases I do NOT know who the HOME/away team is
5. A LOT of traditional GNC games have been moved to new weeks.

Interesting, the Wisconsin games you are showing are teams from the conference Menominee was supposed to join until they were blocked by the MHSAA. Looks like this will benefit a few teams until they reset the conferences in two years.

And in the short term cause nightmares concerning conference games for the North Eastern and the Bay. Unless the games against Menominee and Kingsford are deemed conference games for the WI teams listed, it's going to make a six conference game slate for some in that league.

Piecing together the initial schedules here's what Menominee's conference slate would've been.

WI Weeks

3: Marinette
4: Shawano (P)(Crossover)
5: Freedom (P)
6: Denmark (P)
7: Luxemburg-Casco
8: Wrightstown (P)
9: Little Chute (P)

Not sure if it would've mattered at this point, if the entire GNC went to the WIAA for this realignment phase, would the MSHAA allowed it to happen especially if the West-PAC kept their heels dug in on shutting out the GNC teams?

Could Kingsford and Menominee play in both week 1 and week 9?

Sault Ste. Marie is joining a mostly-LP conference for football in 2020 that includes Boyne City, Benzie Central, Cheboygan, Ogemaw Heights, TC St. Francis, and Grayling

Some of those Wisconsin opponents are very good and respected programs! (Freedom, Little Chute, Luxenburg-Casco...even though something may have been a little fishy- even Denmark was up this year)

I realize the younger guys/gals may not get the Denmark joke.

I beg your pardon? Unless I am missing something the MONLPC East (which Kewaunee is going to be in for 2020) is at 8 teams. This is assuming that you think Sturgeon Bay is going to can their season again?

I wonder if Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay are playing in WI week 1 or 2 for 2020

Or if Sturgeon Bay will be able to field a Varsity squad in 2020.

Kingsford is at Shawano (5-5)
Menominee hosts Freedom (11-1)
Menominee is at Denmark (7-4)
Kingsford is at Luxemburg-Casco (3-6)
Kingsford hosts Wrightstown (10-3)
Menominee hosts Little Chute (5-5)

The BNC is going to be interesting to keep an eye on with Marquette and Esky probably not giving up any time soon in joining.

I can understand Cadillac resisting the addition of the UP teams. Geography for them. Thats a rough trip to do every year to the UP.

Gaylord? I dont get that one. One trip a year to the UP? That's not difficult given their location.

I would keep an eye on this. Cadillac may move on from the Big North. There are other possibilities for them as far as potential conferences. With the Big North teams still in play for OOC games. If Caddy moves out then the door for the two UP teams is wide open IMO. Gaylord will come around.

I think a best case scenario here would be Caddy moving out of the BNC, paving the way for Maqruette and Esky, and then bringing in Soo as well to replace Caddy. It seems like a perfect fit; they're right in between the downstate schools and MQT/Esky, so they'd serve as a nice buffer, and their enrollment is a good fit as well. I doubt that this would ever happen; if Soo didn't want to deal with the GNC schools, there's no way they'd move to a conference where they'd be the smallest in, but it's fun to think about, at least.
