Blast defeat Outlaws

Looks like the Blast overcame some mistakes and earned a tough victory on the road. Looks like they have also found a running game.

From the Blast Organization

2006 Game Stats vs Oakdale Outlaws 5-27

Scoring by Quarters and Final

Quarter 1 2 3 4 Final
Oakdale Outlaws 16 7 0 7 30
U P Arctic Blast 14 8 10 7 39

The Blast fell behind early in the first quarter when the Outlaws took advantage of two cases of poor execution by the Blast offense. The first difficulty occurred when the Outlaws intercepted the first pass on the first play from offense and carried it in for a score. Not long later the Outlaws capitalized on another error when a running back fumbled. The fumble was returned for a TD by another Outlaw defender.

The Yoopers had never been behind by two touchdowns on the season. Hard work and offensive execution brought the quarter ending score to 16 – 14 in favor of the Outlaws. The first TD was scored on a 15 yard scamper by Craig Jensen at the 8:22 mark of the first quarter. A Levi Jarvi PAT, one of 4, made the score 16 – 7.

With 17 seconds left in the first quarter Jeff Taff scored on a 35 yard pass from Simkins.

The teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter. The Blast made up a point when they passed from Simkins to Jonas Olson for a two point conversion. Drew Buyarski blasted in from 2 yards out. The score at half time was 23 – 22 in favor of the Outlaws.

During halftime offensive as well as defensive adjustments were made. On the first possession in the second half Levi Jarvi kicked a 23 yard field goal to make the score 25 – 23 in favor of the Blast. It was the first time the Blast had led. With 3:20 left in the third stanza, Jake Simkins snuck into the endzone. The score after 3 was The Blast 32 – 23.

In the fourth quarter the teams exchanged scores with Jake Simkins hitting Leo Gorzinski on a 25 yard scoring pass. Levi Jarvi was good on the point after and stood four for four on PAT’s and a field goal.

All in all the game was a hard fought and close against an opportunistic opponent.
