As they so often do... Hancock explodes in the 3rd period and takes care of Big Rapids 5-1 to earn a trip to the State Semifinals

Detroit country day had a 3-2 win over Grand Rapids Catholic to earn a trip to the semis against Hancock.

There has been a lot of talk about DCDs goalie Sam Evola who has been stoping about 95% of His shots, but based on the schedule they played, I am still not convinced. He only had to take on more than 30 shots once. we will see what happens when Hancock puts up 45.

Hueby wrote:There was a poster from Houghton on here some years back and that was one neat thing he provided too- all the Michigan High School Hockey coaches who were from the Copper Country.

I thought one was coaching at Traverse City Central- or used to?

Outstanding season Flivvers. Saw some highlights on TV6 website. Looked like a hard fought game from the video.

Wishing the best to Hancock!

Traverse City Central is coached by Chris Givens from Hancock.
Traverse City West is coached by Jeremy Rintala from Houghton.

In the Hancock vs Big Rapids, Hancock out shot them 34-14. BR had a good goalie.

FHNE got drilled by Hartland 9-1 in a penalty filled game as they gave Hartland 7 power plays and 5 goals as a result. FHNE was only out-shot only 27-26 but their goaltender was not as sharp as he was against Kingsford.

Of note Traverse City West who lost to Sault Ste Marie and Traverse City Central during the season lost to Saginaw Heritage in OT 3-2. The same Saginaw Heritage team they tied 4-4 in the last game of the season.

Hancock dropped a heart breaker to Detroit Country Day 2-1 on a late redirect goal that broke the tie.

Country Day goalie Sam Evola who only allowed 23 goals in 24 games this season allowed only one on 25 shots. He did get help from the pipe on two occasions.

Country Day out-shot Hancock 33-25

Appreciate the updates- Hancock has much to be proud of.

On a side note- I hope many of their key players return. If playing football helps make them better hockey players (and vice versa), stay with what works!

I have so much respect for Hancock in that many of their players also play football. Multisport athletes are the best athletes.

Same with the Kingsford team. Lots of their players also play football.

Team CC keeps rolling, beating Kensington Valley 9-1 at the State tournament. KV is coached by former NHL'er Joey Kocur.

Wow back to work already I see. The ole “after” portion of the season.

Hearing there’s a big college hockey game between Northern and Tech. Heard tickets sold out in 3 hours. Wonder if it will be on the internet? Sounds like the Berry Events Center seat complainers are coming back!

Wings could use Kocur ha ha.

So how did Team CC do? I believe they made it to the Championship Round/Game? Wish I could have made it over there to Cornerstone. It would have been a pleasure to watch the U.P. skaters.

There were some nice write ups on Team CC in the Mining Gazette. Sorry to read about some of the things the players families are going through.

Otherwise pretty neat to read about these players from Calumet, Houghton, Hancock, Kingsford and Marquette (Just 1 from Marquette I think) playing together.

Aside from that terrible bus crash involving Humboldt up in Saskatchewan, the only news around here was St. Norbert College won the D3 National Championship and the WIAA forced Notre Dame Academy to forfeit all their wins this past season, as well as their Conference Championship for having an ineligible player.

All I read was it involved a player who started the season with one team then moved to the area while the family lived in an apartment. Has to be more to the story.

Anyways thanks if anyone had any insight on Team CC or will wait for the article.

Team CC won the National Championship 5-1 over the Wonderland Wizards today. Out-shot their opponent 50-17 in the final.

I guess when you put the best talent in the UP together you better look out....

Yes total dominate effort in the final. And that was without Alex Nordstrom, who had an MCL injury in the semi final. Also, they played with 4 D, Teddy Perrault received a game misconduct in the semis as well. I hope Nordy recovers. He was supposed to go to Minnesota this weekend for Team Michigan Juniors. Team CC is made up of 5 kids from Houghton, 6 from Hancock, 5 from Calumet, 2 from Kingsford , 1 from Marquette and 1 from Superior Wi, Max Curtis, his dad is a Hancock native.
