New Conference

Sounds like new conference forming in 8 man football.....
All the 8 man teams in the U.P. are forming a conference with two divisions (East and West).
East - Cedarville, Brimley, Pickford, Rudyard, Engadine, Rapid River, Superior Central
West - Ontonagon, Carney-Nadeau, Powers North Central, Crystal Falls, Stephenson, North Dickinson

Each division will be a separate conference, and there will be some cross-over games between the East and West divisions. Sounds like this will start next year.

An uneven amount of teams is still a headache.......

Why don't Wakefield and Bessemer break up their co-op and come to the reality that schools want their own identity..

Also, Jeffers is big enough to have their own football program...they have for years

Wakefield, Bessemer, and Ironwood are together, who cares about identity? Give them credit for keeping 11 man football alive on the Gogebic Range. No one here is complaining about the co-op, so far.

I like that idea. I believe they'll be called the UP East and UP West next year.

Jeffers may have a 8-man team someday. They're big enough, even Dollar Bay and Chassell could set up their own 8-man programs. That'd be cool. Although they're co-oping with Hancock which makes them a Div 5-6 playoff team.

None of them have fields, likely won't fund one either. The co-op with Hancock is working, great numbers and they are starting to be successful. Why fix what isn't broke?

Maybe the league should reach out to Florence to try to even out the West division. They are considering going to 8-man.

They are a great fit geographically & it would be much less travel than if they went to the MONLPC 8-man league.

Florence would love to be in a conference, even if is with all Michigan schools.........

most of the Wisconsin 8-man teams in the MONLPC are farther away from Florence than the Michigan schools would be......then again, we are talking about how the WIAA handles it's business.........which is idiotic....

even if Florence joins the west division of the U.P. conference, that still leaves 3 open dates in each division for teams to fill. That does not mean that each team HAS to play a team from the other division.........but a gentlemen's agreement among all U.P. schools suggests they TRY to fill those open dates with the other U.P. schools.

I believe that the far eastern U.P. schools could easily fill their dates with some lower Michigan schools, just like the West Division schools could find Wisconsin schools.
