WEC 2018

This doesn't directly affect the current 8 members of the Western Eight Conference, but it might help with scheduling.

Florence (WI) is going to 8-man in 2018...............the article does not say that the Bobcats will automatically join the MONLPC 8-man division....

The 8-man conferences in the UP will end up like this next season

West Division
Carney Nadeau
Forest Park
North Central
North Dickinson
Ontonagon
Stephenson
Florence WI?

East Division
Brimley
Cedarville
Engadine
Pickford
Rapid River
Rudyard
Superior Central

It's a possibility that Florence might end up in the West conference, but don't know for sure if they are or not.

It'll be interesting to see what happens next year, but basketball and track seasons first.

Rudyard is also in the East Division........

Florence has already 5 teams scheduled for 2018;

Phillips (WI)
Carney-Nadeau
North Dickinson
Menominee Indian
Lena/STAA

Not sure they will have the dates left open to schedule the rest of the Western Division teams.

Don't forget Florence will need permission from the WIAA to join a Michigan conference, unless they already did so. If they don't they will be ineligible for postseason play. Stupid rule, if you ask me...

they can still join "unofficially" in the eyes of the WIAA, but still be a part of the conference in Michigan............in WIAA terms, they would just be considered to be an independent.........since Florence is only assured of playing 8-man for 2 seasons for sure.....they will reevaluate their situation after the 2nd year, hoping to go back to 11-man........

Not true, the WIAA will place them in an 8 Man conference. Next year is the first year of an official 8 Man state tournament in Wisconsin, they shouldn't do anything that could compromise that. There is an 8 Man conference in Wisconsin that will take another team.

The MONPLC 8 is full already with 10 teams, that is the best fit for travel. With more teams moving to 8 Man, more conferences will be formed. The WIAA is a stickler about using a teams conference record for placing teams in the playoffs. The U.P. Schools would be a great fit, but the WIAA will likely screw that up. With Northland Pines getting booted from the West PAC and Hurley leaving I can see them not allowing Florence to join a Michigan conference.

there are only 9 teams in the MONLPC-8.......as Wausau Newman Catholic is not an official member of the conference....they just happened to fill in all the other team's open dates in 2017.....

Florence would not have been able to schedule Lena/STAA and Menominee Indian if the conference had 10 teams.

A conference of some Wisconsin 8-man teams could include:

Florence
Phillips
Wausau Newman Catholic
Chippewa Falls McDonell Central
Port Edwards (if they chose to play 8-man again in 2018)
Washburn/Bayfield/South Shore (if the chose to play 8-man again in 2018)
