Yeah that’s true- many times we forget that. I remember back in the early 2000’s that was a big highlight for their program when they defeated Marquette in the playoffs.

If I remember correctly, a player who torched the Redmen that game was from Gwinn.

Hope the UP teams do well in the TC Showcase.

Sounds like Marquette has been playing much better the past four games.

Friday in the Traverse City Showcase they defeated Grand Rapids Christian 3-2 in OT. No score after the 1st, Redmen down 1-0 after 2 periods, then in the 3rd Marquette tied it at 1-1, later tied it 2-2, then the Phillips cousins teamed up for the game winner in OT.

On Saturday Marquette defeated the Bay Area Reps 5-2.

Escanaba won both their games too and Kingsford split two games deceided by 1 goal.

Meanwhile Caulmet was hosting UD-Jesuit but haven't checked up how that went.

Great to watch the Red Wings right now. Was talking to a BlackHawks fan at work and he was saying their defense has been a concern.

Anyone remember 10 years ago it was easy to buy tickets down in Chicago when the Wings played there? Not the case anymore and they are much more expensive!

U of d Jesuit took the first game 4-2 though there were a few sloppy goals and good goaltending by UofD

Calumet won the second game 3-0 to win the miners cup with a 5-4 two game total.

It may have been a couple sloppy goals, but even Giachino said Calumet's shots were from the outside and the goalie had good looks at them. He also said the U of D D men did a better job of defending than his D did.

Hancock 10-1 over Negaunee. Dawson Kero starting goalie actually skated out as a forward.

Calumet 10-2 over Escanaba. Esky was up 2-0, Calumet scored 6 PPGs 4 of them on a 5 min major.

At this link you can click on Bay Port to see how they are doing this season, their roster and stats:

http://www.wisconsinprephockey.net/page ... er-classic

A side note, if you check out Green Bay United that is all the players they have. Might be two players missing but what you see is all the 9th-12th graders that make up their entire program. No JV team.

Hancock gutted it out against Bay Port. Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but lost Captain Teddy Randell to an injury and that took a lot of wind out of their sails. Hancock killed a 5 on 3 against in the last 3 minutes of regulation. Hancock wins with a goal :15 into OT 4-3. Looking at Bay Port, they have 8 one goal losses, 4 of them in OT.
Marquette had a big win at the Soo vs Flint Powers 5-3. Mqt had to kill a 5 min major in the 3rd. Powers is ranked #2 in D3, right behind #1 D3 Hancock.

Bay Port plays Houghton today at the Dee.

Marquette has TC West in the Soo.

Wow that Hancock PK team must be commended! What an exciting game. Sounds like the Pirates need to learn how to win the close ones. Am sure the Bay Port players and families are especially excited to play at the historic Dee.

Thanks for the update. Hope Randell heals and returns soon.

Read Marquette lost to TC West 2-1. Sounds like they had some pretty major calls that didn’t go their way.

Anyone hear how the Bay Port vs Houghton game went? WiPH still has the game 0-0 during the 1st period. Pirates own hockey page hasn’t been updated since Jan 5.

Houghton won 4-1. Bay Port didn't have the same jump as they did on Friday. I also heard from a source that BP has issues in the locker room. Houghton bounced back from the loss to Kingsford on Tuesday. Sounded like TC West played a solid game against Mqt.

Flint Powers beat the Soo 4-2 even though they got totally homered by the Soo refs. The total penalties were 12-2 against FP, Soo was 0-10 on the PP.

Awesome thanks. Nice rankings site.

On the Bay Port/Houghton game, when I checked Wisconsin Prep Hockey on my break the game was still In Progress in the 1st period lol.

Sorta not surprised to hear about possible problems in the locker room. Team cohesion is a problem in our neck of the woods. Not with every team /various sports but it’s very, very common.

So Bay Port should be something like 5-13 to date.

A young Ashwaubenon player told us Green Bay United only had 9 skaters on their varsity! And some of them “Never played hockey before!” In a recent game down here Ashwaubenon brought up many JV players and were told to “Take it easy on them” (Score was 5-0 Ashwaubenon).

That's some serious home cooking in the Soo. Basically FP beat them with one less player on the ice in that game.

The phrase “home cooking” crossed my mind too! Makes you wonder if Flint Powers will bother to travel up there next season. (Wouldn’t it be funny next year you see a showcase in the Copper Country involving Bay Port, Flint Powers, Houghton & Hancock.)

I just heard Houghton beat Kingsford 4-3. Kingsford was up 3-1 after 2. Houghton scored 3 goals in the final 4 minutes to win on the road.

Got my interest so I looked it up. Sounds like a hek of a U.P. hockey game on a very emotional night:

Class act coaches and players on both teams!

Kingsford has a talented hockey team. They play hard. If they can learn to play smarter they could be a tough out.

Last night they were up 3-1 on Houghton. They gave Houghton 3 consecutive power plays in the 3rd period, then gave them a 5-3 with 5 minutes left. Houghton cashed in and tied the game up with two power play goals, then blasted a shot from the blue line that must have surprised the goalie to win it with under a minute remaining.

Flivvers have been playing right with some good teams, but they take penalties the good teams don't take. Clean that up and who knows for this team.

Esky is at Hancock tonight. We'll see how Hancock plays without their captain. Teddy Randell is out until at least next week.

Kingsford is at Marquette.

Hancock beat Esky 8-2. Esky did not register a shot on goal in the 1st period. Final shots were 34-15. Nordstrom had 4 goals.

Kingsford beat Mqt 4-3 OT.

Houghton beat Negaunee 9-0.

Was able to catch some of this game tonight on the internet:

Kingsford 4
@ Marquette 3
Final OT

Like the first game when the teams met, Marquette jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Kingsford' s 3 goals in regulation came on the power play. Coach Garrow said in the post game show Marquette' s penalty kill was awful.

From some of Marquette' s penalties it sounds like Kingsford' s speed gave them problems.

In the OT period the Redmen carried the play but like the announcers described- one giveaway led to a breakaway then a goal.

Coach Garrow was very unhappy with some of the players attitudes. He spoke of players getting easily frustrated when things didn't go their way. He even pointed one of the broken sticks a player broke out of frustration. Coach Garrow took responsibility for the players frustrations and wants to see them put the whining & complaining aside- and instead stay determined and work through it.

He vowed to fix this. Coach Garrow also commended Kingsford' s work ethic during the game and said they deserved the win.

Marquette' s next game will be in a couple weeks.

Hancock beat Escanaba 9-3 Saturday afternoon. HCH busted open a close game with 6 goals in the 3rd. Calumet vs Hancock Tuesday in Hancock. The Bulldogs are still without captain Teddy Randell. He is hoping to skate this week and maybe play down at the Trenton Showcase.

Is Esky young this season? Don't recall seeing them losing a lot of games by wide margins.

Hancock shut down Calumet 3-1. Calumet avoided the shutout with a goal with 6+ minutes to go in the game. Teddy Randell did end up playing and scored twice. Nordstrom added a SHG. Hancock out shot Cal 23-19. Next up is the Trenton Showcase. Hancock draws Plymouth and Brighton. Calumet draws Flint Powers and Warren DeLasalle and Houghton plays Cranbrook and Dearborn Divine Child.
